Completed Projects

Aversboro Elementary School (Garner, NC)

The project was located at the existing school site located in Garner, NC. We actually had two separate contracts with the first being Phase I - Clearing & Building Pad. This work consisted of: initial erosion control devices, clearing & grubbing, storm drainage and the import of 15,000 cy of borrow material to build the building pad for the future school.

The second contract was for Phase II - Site Grading & Storm Drainage. This work consisted of:

Removal of Storm Drain - 1,100 lf
Removal of Asphalt - 7,650 sy
Removal of Sidewalk - 2,070 sy
Excavation - 36,000 cy
Storm Drain & Roof Drains - 3,476 lf
Fine Grade of Site - 461,178 sf

The project lacked any great quantities however the challenges were great. We had multiple mobilizations since the new school was being built on an existing site with the old school in operations. We also had limited time to due our major portion of work for Phase II since the old school could not be demolished until school was out for the summer. At which time the entire site was changed. New parking lots where built where the old school was which meant new storm drainage had to be installed and the entire site graded. All of this work had to be completed prior to school opening in late summer. This meant long and numerous shifts with multiple crews.

Another interesting aspect of the project was the value engineering that we provided the owner. The original work called for us to export 20,000 cy of dirt. However, with the size and topography of the site we suggested utilizing the excess material by building a play field behind the new school. This value engineering was accepted and now the children have a new field to play on.
